From the first glance of the gargoyle on the label of Arrogant Bastard ale, you get a hint that this 1pt bottle is not something to take lightly. It even warns you on the label that you probably will not like it, so pick up one bottle just to try it out.

My first time trying it was an adventure, not only because I had arrogance running through my veins at full steam, but because it was a new flavor for me. Its bitter after taste reminds you that lots of hops are used in this brew. But it will take a little time to get used to it.

I enjoy it and if you have the taste buds and sophistication, you will too. Just don't expect your buddies to like it, those yellow fizzy beer drinking wussies.

Arrogant Bastard an IPA?

I wouldn't at all call AB an IPA. IPAs, at least those from here on the West Coast, ARE all about hops, hops, and more hops. Even ones that have a bit more balance to it like Pliny the Elder are still hop-dominated. No, I think Arrogant Bastard is what's called a "strong ale", basically shorthand for any American beer that of sufficient strength that isn't other hop-dominated like an IPA or malt-dominated like a porter or stout.

Making me like IPA's again ...

I agree with the reviewer in his comments about this beer ... it takes a bit getting used to - but strangely enough it's making me appreciate IPA's again ... this IPS is not just hops hops hops and more hops but actually has an elegant, almost flowery undertone ... like walking through a damp boreal forest on a warm day ...
