Bare Tree Weiss from Two Brothers: prepare to recalibrate your tastebuds
![]() |
Two Brothers artist series Bare Tree Weiss beer is a barley wine style according to the label. I don't know what barley wine should taste like, so for ignorance and moderation's sake, I poured a couple of juice glasses full for my wife and myself.
This came in a 25oz. bottle for 10 bucks. A bit pricey, but I had to round out the Two Brothers Brewing Co. canon.
Well, I need to recalibrate my taste buds to what my mind believes is a Weiss beer. This beer had a sweet, boozy, almost raisin-like aroma. It poured very rich and deep with a cloudy golden hue.
Bare Tree Weiss has a sharp hops flavor and sweet bite, a robust bitter-sweetness like the first time I tasted Duvel. It's very complex in flavor and you can easily just split a bottle with your wife, buddy, chum, whomever, and be good for the evening.
I haven't researched it, but I'm guessing the barley wine style is a connotation of alcohol by volume. Two thumbs up.
I can't put a cork in it, so I have to wait to finish my Two Brothers Canon with Victor's Memoriale Altbier.
Two Brothers Brewing Co. is still a buy recommendation but for happy trails, stick with their moderately priced Ebel's Weiss and the dark malty Domain Dupage.
