I am not a major fan of brown ales, but that said, this is a fine example of the style.
Pours brown (duh!), sort of antique piano mahogany colour with a small, persistent head.
Smells deep and rich. The tasting notes promise chocolate and coffee flavours, but I don't get the coffee at all. It's sweet, for sure. Continues below
Maybe a tiny hint of coffee on initial pull, but that's lost in the malty taste. As usual with brown ales, there follows a long, sourish bitter aftertaste, which is what I really dislike about the style, in addition to them bloating me.
