ABOUT THE CHINA DELEGATE

A China beer guide has joined the massing ranks of the United Nations of Beer! David Friesen is a British ex-pat journalist based in Beijing.

China

David Friesen, our China Beer Delegate.

David Friesen has a massive job: reporting from one of the hugest markets in the world. We are in awe of your task.

There's something undeniably exotic and mysterious about a country with the world's largest population, yet about which so little is known in the West.

Dave's the man to put that right. Judging by his proposal speech, he's very keen to let the world know what it's missing.

When you read his first review, you'll see we're missing formaldehyde, among other fine ingredients. Yes, that stuff the dead baby animals were preserved with back in your high school lab.

We're expecting Dave to be 'pickled' more often than not!

You can find examples of David's writing at his website, David Friesen.co.uk, or check out his work in China on a project called Chinese Savvy. Here's his speech.

David's proposal speech:

Well, what can I say? I write, I love beer, hence doing some beer writing is probably a good idea!

Also, living in China I thought I would let people know what the beer is like here. It's not like you can go into most local pubs or bars in western countries and pick up a Yanjing Pijiu!

China.I think it's time to prepare everyone for the world's largest (by volume) beer-consuming country, before the Olympics in 2008: and the best (well, ONLY) way to do that is to look at the beer!

From the millions of bottles of Tsingtao drunk, to the small craft brewers and bars, I can spread the word of Chinese beer!

Welcome to the team, Dave!
