Chippier and Maudite Quebec beers
by Ivan Solomons
(Orangeville, ON)
I was in Quebec City recently and enjoyed a beer that I'm sure was called Chippier, or something very close to that. Unfortunately I didn't keep the restaurant bill so I can't confirm the spelling. Anyhow, assuming that you're able to identify it, do you know whether that beer and another called Unibroue Maudite is available in Ontario? The Chippier was the closest I've seen to the "bitter" pulled ales in the UK and I'd love to be able to get hold of more of it.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
[Editor's note: Never heard of anything called "Chippier", though if you don't speak French, a lot of the words can sound bizarre. If anybody's got a clue, please email.
You can find all the Quebec beer we've reviewed at our Quebec beer guide.
Maudite beer is pretty widely available. Check out LCBO stores that make an effort to stock interesting beer. I've found Maudite available in good beer stores in various northern states of the US.
