Anyone who ever tells you that you can't find a good beer brewed in Utah hasn't done much research into the greatness of some of the state's breweries. The Crooked Line series of brews by Uinta are some of the best I have tasted, and Detour Double IPA is fantastic.
The aroma is a deep hoppy aroma with lots of sweetness and earthy overtones. Like sticking your head into a fresh barrel of hops, just not sticky. There were no real malt or yeast scents present due to the great amount of hops used to brew and dry hop this beer.
The appearance is a clear, bright golden color, almost a light orange in hue with no haze or cloudiness. There is a creamy white head that laces the glass as you consume the beer and lingers on top of the glass. The moderate carbonation which keeps the head thick.
The flavor is full bodied and rich with hops and a mild malt and earthy sweetness. There is a strong bitterness that is not overwhelming but complimentary of the sweetness of the hops and no grassy aftertaste. The bitterness coats the linings of the mouth with hops, but does not leave a bad aftertaste.
Detour's mouthfeel is smooth in texture which coats the palate with sweet and earthy flavors and a refreshing carbonation. The film coats the tongue, mouth and the back of the throat as you drink it. Definitely leaves you wanting more.
An excellent beer, great flavor, carbonation, texture and mouthfeel. The flavors intensify as the beer warms like any good IPA but with a lot more hop bite.
