I would first like to say that "What’s your favorite beer?" is an extremely unfair question. I have a special place in my heart for porters and stouts and therefore I have chosen, as my favorite beer, the best stout I have ever had.
I was in Colorado a few weeks ago visiting my friend Lindsay and she took me to a brew pub known as The Walnut. they had nine different beers on tap and only sold beer which they made in house.
I had tried most of their beers, when I noticed a wonderful black coming out of the tap. I then said to Sean (the bartender, who was now my new best friend), "Is that a stout I see?" He said yes and I asked for a Devil's Thumb stout. Continues below
The beer would then fall like a Guinness with an off-white head. I could tell by the sight of it that I was going to enjoy it.
When I took the first taste, I noticed that it was the freshest-tasting stout that I had ever had. The flavor was prefect, with a nice rounded hop and just a touch smoky.
The texture was thick and very full in body, the flavor didn't over power the texture. The flavor and texture both complemented each other greatly.
I used to compare every stout or porter that I drank to both Guinness and Murphy's stout, but now I compare them to Devil's Thumb stout, the beer I call... the perfect stout.
