Dos Equis XX

Dos Equis XX. Buy it in green or amber bottles, which apparently preserves the beer better. Ho hum

I'm not a huge beer fan. I particularly dislike beer with a strong bitter taste.

It wasn't until a friend of a friend introduced me to Dos Equis XX that I found a beer I truly love and enjoy the taste of.

With its smooth taste and the soft tingle of carbonation, it's nearly perfection. The aftertaste is a unique and mellow blend that is similar to that of a Corona.

Dos Equis XX received its name to celebrate the turn of the century. Dos Equis translates to two Xs.

Of Cabbages and Kings
by: Dallas Reimer

I bring the bottle to my mouth and catch a faint whiff of something familiar. I pause, trying to pinpoint the scent and suddenly, it comes to me. This beer smells like cabbage.

I take another sniff in disbelief and think back to last week's lunch of Hungarian cabbage soup. There are definite similarities. Dos Equis XX Amber smells like cabbage. I take a sip and it tastes like it smells. Cabbage.

Dos Equis XX Amber is a 4.6 ABV cerveza, perfect in theory for sipping all day while relaxing and watching the bikini-clad Mexican beauties cavort in the water, but the execution is questionable. I've heard stories about Mexican water. Maybe that's the problem.

I seriously feel like I'm drinking cold cabbage soup. A low point on the World Tour of Beer, so far anyway.

Drink French, in Russian
by: CA surfer and Swiss skier

I confess I have spent my whole early life drinking Mexican beers on the beach. Sorry snobovian sud-o-philes. And while I am not the most interesting man in the world, I am among the coolest. I live 1/2 time in Europe (ski season) and have spent countless hours in Munich and rest of Bavaria at Oktoberfest and all over Bohemia, and am routinely drunk in London at the Churchill Arms (legendary) so at least I know what 'genuine' beer tastes like in the native habitats, even if I retain plebian beer tastes. Which brings me to Dos Equis. It is my 2nd favorite Mexibrew (after Bohemia - nice segue and brewed by the same brewery..). Dos Equis has a bit more pronounced taste. It has a good dose of bitter, but does not have the skunky of Corona. It is a strong amber, achieving the desired effect without a brutal aftertaste. If you are in the mood for 3-4 beers, Dos Equis is perfect. It is also equally good as a day or evening beer. For Asian beer drinkers, it is a bit stronger than Singha or Tiger, but with equally pleasant aftertaste.

Even the impossible can be found on eBay, if you are patient in your searching. Try searching for Russian River (you'll need to narrow down by beer name, ex. Pliny, Damnation, Temptation), Black Albert, or any of the BIG beers. Don't overlook eBay's Belgium Beer results either...
