Eimeo Hotel, Mackay, Queensland. NOT a place for piss-wrecks

Eimeo Hotel, Mackay, Queensland. NOT a place for piss-wrecks

One of the most gloriously tacky beer gifts ever! Click to see more the UNOB beer gifts HQ.

Regarding Jane Turner's review of the Eimeo Pub.

jane while surfing the net on my home town of mackay i came across your review of the eimeo hotel, yes it is an old hotel and yes the veiws are wonderful however having been a publican for some time myself i am surprised to read your veiws on this hotel.

these comments i found to be derogitory and potentally harmful to the hotels trade. lucky its a free contry and you are entitled to your opinion, as i am to mine . so if the decore, service and beer is not to your liking then may i offer you some possible reasons for this.

A. you are probably a victorian or worse still a whinging pommy, in my experience as a publican and meeting new people everyday i would suggest you are the later!

B. you are probally a raving piss wreck with no mates who uses the guise of beer taster/reveiwer to cover this fact!

C. the "contruction site" type fencing around such beer gardens is to prevent closet drunks such as yourself falling toes up down the shear cliff face and sueing the pants of the management!

D. the bar, kitchen staff and management probably spotted you for what you are a mile of and treated you accordingly in the hope they would never see you again.

E. these types of hotels are obviously not to your liking and you should not enter them in the first place, as i doubt you have made very few friends in the local communtiy. furthermore you would be a liabilaty to the have on the premises as serving drunks carries a hefty fine.

In a nut shell Jane if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all! If this is beyond you then piss off back to where ever you came from!

yours, sincerely Shaun Cornwell. Mackay QLD.

Editor's note: We ran this by Jane before publishing it and left it in its original state for a bit of a giggle.

First job i ever had
by: Paul Cain

My love for Eimeo and the pub go way back to the 70's when I was a kid growing up there. This was when Eimeo was a beautiful unspoilt paradise. Then the developers came in and stuffed it up. Progress is what I think they call it, yeh right. One thing that still is in somewhat of an original is the pub. When I was 12 I use to do a bit of cleaning on a Saturday morning for a bit of pocket money off Joan, the owner at the time and for many years after. Be nice to the old pub she's seen many a good time.

Life's Good
by: Ryno

My family and I had dinner at the Eimeo on Sat,meals where great, staff MORONS,we had a staff member ask to do a survey(which I would normally not do) it took ten minutes, about 10 people in the pub,we where the only ones in the lounge,I then went and ordered dinner with same SURVEY girl only to be asked what table I was on!I then ordered SKINNY CAP and was asked what Milk I wanted!I drank here 25 years ago and the staff could remember what drink you wanted when the place was packed!Get RID of THE BACKPACKERS and hire some BARSTAFF.Great to revisit the OLD GIRL.

Best location in Australia
by: Anonymous

We love the pub and although we don't visit often from Sydney, this is where we definitely must stop and have a coldie. The best location of any pub I've ever been to. Wish there were more of them!

My friendly local hotel
by: Anonymous

Well, I live within a short walk of the Hotel and it is a must when we have visitors staying with us. The view is magic and the staff very friendly and the food so far has been good.
There is good seating areas and the whole concept of the place is relaxing.
Maybe one day it will have a complete makeover and become some sort of pseudo tropical retreat, but that wont change the location. It is priceless.

Jane got it wrong, all right...
by: Brian Norris (from a newspaper letter)

Jane Turner got it wrong! There is nothing mediocre about the Eimeo Pub experience... it's bloody deplorable.

Been there once, unfortunately with interstate visitors, only to be totally embarrassed.

The beer is supposed to be cold and the food hot... not the other way around, not to mention tasteless and overpriced.

Service non-existent and an ambience which was reminiscent of a none-too-clean zoo.

The only thing the place has going for it is the view... and best to experience that from the outside!!!!!!

Eimeo Hotel

RE:- Jane Turners Review.
Jane, your review of the Eimeo Hotel does have some truth about it. I'am a local in the area for some 30 years, and in that time have seen the changes. Since Jeannie took over the management, some years ago, far more locals have declined to visit for this reason alone. She was the rudest irish publican I have ever come across, and some of the staff picked up that same attitude. I know muscians that will never, i repeat, never play there ever again because of this publican. I sincerly hope the tavern down the road keep her there, or better still move to there airlie beach establishment. Can you imagine being told to leave because of laughter. Bring back the old Eimeo Hotel and give it back to the true locals.

agree with review
by: Anonymous

I live only 150 metres from the eimeo hotel and used to be a regular drinker there. Whenever I had visitors i would always take them to the pub for a drink. This hotel was then full of life and fun - this was a couple of years ago. Then Jean, the previous leasee left and the owners family took over. What a disaster that was. Prices went through the roof and the atmosphere disappeared with the patrons. I used to buy 2 cartons of beer a week there but then they decided that you could not buy beer by the carton you had to buy it by the six pack. Soon after you couldnt even buy take aways. I have only been back once since which is probably more than most locals. I am also an ex publican and i can assure you that the local feeling is that the only thing that is wrong with the hotel is the management.

EX-BARMAID OF EIMEO HOTEL
by: Mrs Minch (a true local will know me

BRAVO SHAUN ON YOUR SCATHING REVIEW OF JANE TURNER'S COMMENTS/REVIEW OF THIS WONDERFUL HOTEL.
I HAVE TO SAY THATS NOT A BLOODY PHOTO OF THIS GRAND OLD HOTEL.THATS A SHAME. I GOT ALL NOSTALGIC THINKING I WAS GOING TO REVISIT THE SITE OF MANY MEMORIES. NEVER MIND.
I LEARNT MY TRADE IN THIS HOTEL UNDER THE INFAMOUS JEANNIE CROMBIE WHO MANAGED THE HOTEL FOR THE EVEN MORE INFAMOUS OH!NO (alias John Oneil.) BUT WAY BEFORE THEM I KNEW AND LOVED THE MATRIACH WHO OWNED THE HOTEL FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, JOAN DRISCOL. SHE WORE DIAMONDS ON HER FINGERS BIGGER THAN LIZ TAYLOR AND HAD A LIFE TWICE THE SIZE.
JANE YOUR TUNNEL VISIONED YUPPIE BS VIEW OF THIS FABULOUS HOTEL IS THE REASON NO BODY LIKES YOU FROM AROUND EIMEO. YOU WILL NEVER BE A LOCAL WITH TRUE APPRECIATION OF THE DYNAMIC ATTRACTION OF THIS WONDERFUL PLACE, SO GO HOME.
SHAUN POST A REAL PHOTO OF THE HOTEL. I WILL BE OVER YOUR WAY MID NEXT YEAR AND EIMEO WILL BE MY FIRST PORT OF CALL. TELL ALL THE LOCALS I AM COMING HOME. CHEERS THE NOTORIOUS MRS MINCH
