Granville Island Brockton IPA
Granville Island Brewing, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Piney! If you've ever been curious when you've heard somebody describe a beer as tasting of pine sap, then this beer will be a good introduction to the concept.
It pours a regulation IPA amber, though with barely any noticeable head. The scent is sharply bitter and laced with citrus/pine.
Initially the fizzy mouthful feels right: there's bitterness, maybe too much, with a near-perfect dryness that is what I adore about IPAs.
Then you swallow and the dry aftertaste you're expecting is discarded in favour of piney tangs similar to spruce beer.
It's not a well-balanced beer. The hops don't work for me. Many beer fans love a piney IPA though and if you're in that camp, this won't disappoint. There may be better selections at our BC beer guide page for you.
