Guinness recipe: REAL Irish stew
We tested our Guinness recipe for REAL Irish stew on a REAL Irishman (friend of the UNOB, Irish Mike) and he loved it! So it should be good enough for you ignorant lot.
Don't miss our Guinness store!
Preparation time:
10 minutes
Cooking time
3+ hours (the longer you cook it, the better it will be)
Ingredients
800g stewing lamb (you can use pork or beef if you prefer)
salt
pepper
rosemary (fresh is 20 times better than dry!)
2 heaping tbsps flour
3 garlic cloves
olive oil
1 red onion
1 leek
Small package baby carrots
10-15 new potatoes
1 heaping tablespoon Marmite (yeast spread)
1 can 454ml Guinness beer
1 pint beef or chicken stock
Directions
Cut the meat into chunks and season the meat with salt, pepper and rosemary. Rub the pieces in flour. Fry the seasoned, floured meat in oil until browned. Set aside.
Fry the onions and garlic in the bottom of your largest saucepan (it should have a lid). Add carrots and onion and leek. Fry for two minutes, then add the rest of the ingredients, including the prepared meat.
Bring the mixture to a boil. Cook on a low heat for about three hours.
If you have a slow cooker, this is a perfect recipe. It will be better the longer it's cooked for.
