Harpoon Brewery limited releases

During the recent Vermont Brewers
Festival, Mattias and I were often overwhelmed with choice at
each of
the brewers' tents. Two tokens per tent. Two shots at an entire brewery
range! What to choose?
My own feeling is that limited release beers are a one-off opportunity. Once they're gone, they're no longer available for review. What happens then? We miss out. And so it was with little hesitation that we selected two Harpoon Brewery limited batch beers: Kellerbier and Peche.
As you'll see if you watch the video, we liked both beers for different reasons.
At first taste, Peche, a peach lambic style beer, was delicious, but over-sweet for my tastes.
It's always a bit of a gamble to try a new fruit beer. They are very hit and miss in my experience. The good ones are delicious, the bad ones are ugly.
If there is such a thing as a perfect day for a peach lambic, then the VBF was that day. Very warm and sunny and the beer was on tap and ice cold.
A slurp of Kellerbier soon sorted out the sweetness issue with the Peche.
Harpoon Brewery limited release Kellerbier was brought back after the first batch sold out and the brewery's customers requested more.
It was described by Mattias as "like IPA lite", being hoppy and delicious, yet not too dry.
I
found it quite similar to Brooklyn Lager and enjoyed
it just as much.
Drinking Peche again afterwards was a lot easier, as the "hoppy lager" Kellerbier took care of the sweetness, leaving the peach taste to be enjoyed in isolation.
Of course, you may not have the privilege of drinking these two beers together. In which case, hop fans who like a refreshing beer rather than a dry IPA will enjoy Kellerbier.
Whether you can live with the Peche depends on your stance on sweet beers.
