My feeling is that limited release beers are a one-off opportunity. Once they're gone, they're no longer available for review. What happens then? We miss out. And so it was with little hesitation that Vermont Delegate Mattias Dahlstrom and I sampled two Harpoon Brewery limited batch beers: Kellerbier and Peche.
We liked both beers for different reasons. At first taste, Peche, a peach lambic style beer, was delicious, but over-sweet for my tastes.
It's always a bit of a gamble to try a new fruit beer. They are very hit and miss in my experience. The good ones are delicious, the bad ones are ugly.
If there is such a thing as a perfect day for a peach lambic, then it was that day. Very warm and sunny and the beer was on tap and ice cold.
Whether you can live with the Peche depends on your stance on sweet beers. But it never hurts to have a strong, hoppy beer on hand to balance it out.
