If you need a Japan beer guide, you've come to the right place.
Not only have we made a running start to one of the most difficult countries on the planet, but we've found a Beer Delegate in an ideal position for us!

Douglas Gloag (centre) is our Beer Delegate for Japan. If you're wondering what the outfits are about, just say "Yamabushi". It's a monk thing.
Douglas Gloag (centre) is a half-Scot who grew up in England (two doors down from your Secretary-General, by co-incidence). He went to Japan for a three-year teaching course in the early 90s and never found a reason to leave again.
You can bet your bottom Yen that DG has spent many of the intervening years propping up the bar in the Japanese equivalent of your local pub.
He's the perfect UNOB Beer Delegate, being fluent in Japanese, an English native speaker and has intimate knowledge of pubs, booze and the Japanese translation of such useful phrases as "I've been told I've only got 24 hours to live; please let me experience love, one last time."
Since arriving in the far east, he's
become a
bit of a celebrity among the high schools and universities of
Yamagata province, not to mention getting to know the many
types of Jap beer.
Guide your eyes over his great proposal speech!
I feel 25 years of experience and a never say 'enough!' attitude makes me a perfect choice for Japan's UNOB beer delegate.
I am also one of a handful of world-wide challengers that has out-drunk a Russian, left him on his tatami straw mat to go out to get another pint (to clear the palate!). A hump is to a camel what my belly is to my existence.
My broad knowledge of Japanese beers (in all their shapes and sizes) will certainly add to the beer database at the UNOB.
Meanwhile,
fancy yourself as a UNOB Beer Delegate for your
country? Or do you want to assist Douglas with this Japan beer guide?
Great! Go to our Beer Delegates page
