La Chouape 1881: not an easy drinking beer
La Chouape 1881 (6.7% ABV)
La Chouape, Lac-St-Jean, QC, Canada
This is a new brewer to me; apparently they have other beers which will be available here soon.
1881 is, basically, a blonde ale, but it pours almost red, nearly no head. Light carbonation. Loads of yeast in the nose.
Very thin, sharp-tasting beer, which is harsh at the swallow. Some citrus notes but overpowered by hop bitterness and that harsh jolt. Strong alcohol taste considering the strength.
