Thanks to Dave Oplinger for bringing this beer to Montreal, along with a couple of dozen others! And what a thanks THIS beer deserves! Quite simply, so far anyway, the best Wisconsin beer I have tasted. Huge, powerful and delicious.
It pours a dark chocolate-brown with a fluffy tan-white head. A salvo of hop aroma smacks into your nose when you take a sniff, but any people who dislike IPAs should not stop reading. This offers so much more than hops and pine.
Initially a fizzy, hoppy taste hits your tongue, but as you begin to swallow almost a plum pudding sweetness develops and rounds out the taste. It's like a Doberman that's been brought up in a loving family; you can tell the potential for menace has been bred into this beer, but it's mellow, smooth and a big softy. Even the 8% alcohol can't turn this into a snarling beast.
Quite, quite delightful. Dave, if you're reading, snag a couple more bottles of this for me, would you...
