Lazy Mutt Farmhouse ale

Lazy Mutt Farmhouse ale. It comes in an eight pack, which is always a good start...

Not very often do you find a beer that comes in an eight pack. That was a very good beginning to my introduction to Lazy Mutt Farmhouse Ale by Minhas Brewery out of Monroe, Wisconsin. This beer was recommended to me by a coworker and I happened to see it at the store when I ran in for some other items. When I arrived home, I popped the bottle of Lazy Mutt to give it a test run on the tongue.

The beer poured a bit hazy as one would expect with a farmhouse ale, with nothing but a very light white head. Maybe head would be the wrong term, since it was so very slight and did not leave any lace on the side of the glass.

Upon taking a quick sniff of the beer, the aroma comes at you with a slight tartness, which again for a farmhouse ale is great. There is certainly no hop aroma or flavor to this beer at all, the flavor is certainly all from the yeast in this brew.

The flavor of Lazy Mutt Farmhouse ale is similar to the aroma; there is a slight nice sourness to this beer, with a flavor that seems to suggest that the brewery uses corn as an adjunct. I have heard others say this brew has a very large corn flavor, but I would have to disagree and say that while the flavor is present, it is certainly nowhere the level of, say, a Point Beer.

The body of the beer is very light, I could see myself drinking this in the summer after a nice long bicycle ride through the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine. This beer is very light and refreshing, and seems to be a nice alternative to New Glarus Spotted Cow.

To me this beer would need a bit more body to be a very good beer, but other than that I would recommend Lazy Mutt as a good one to have on hand for the summer months. Nothing to get overly excited about, but much better than having some flavorless macro lager around. Give it a try, you may find a new summer favorite.
