Why should you care about the calories in the beer you consume?

You might imagine that simply by choosing a light beer over a regular alternative, you're doing enough to ensure your good health. Of course, anything is a help! But (good tasting brews aside), there are "good" and "less good" choices to make when it comes to light beer calorie content.

A regular habit of drinking one beer per night could have a significant impact on your long-term weight. The difference between the most calorific and the least calorific of light beers (currently 79 cals per 330ml bottle) works out to more than 28,000 calories per year at one 330ml bottle of beer per day.

Why care about beer calories? The only blondes in your future will look like this if you don't... To gain one pound in weight, assuming no change in exercise, you need to consume 3,500 extra calories.

So by drinking a lighter choice in the above example, you'd save 8lbs of weight gain over the course of a year.
