Logique Bio organic beer
What I love most about being Secretary General of the UNOB is the opportunity to try so many new beers. Not a week goes by without more different bottles or cans coming my way and it's great. Especially when one catches you unawares with its quality!
Organic food is huge and growing all the time, so it's only "natural" (boom boom!) that more and more organic beers are appearing. Logique Bio organic beer is from a company called Le Chaudron International. I'd never heard of them before and they weren't even on our Guide to Quebec Breweries page (I've since put that right!).
I found this tucked away in a corner of a tired old dep on the street I used to live on in the Plateau de Montreal.
It wasn't even chilled, so I figured that I ought to rescue it and take it to a party for extensive testing.
I blame the boring(!) rugby match on TV, the 25 mins of rugby I'd played earlier in the day, the lack of food since said match, the fact that I have been getting very little sleep since the twins arrived... anything but the Logique Bio organic beer, anyway!
Yes, okay, I'll admit it. I fell asleep in a roomful of mostly friends of my mate Adrian, who had just met me for the first time that evening.
So, it wasn't until a few days later that I finally got to crystalise my thoughts about this beer.
I've had mixed experiences with organic beers so far. Mill Street organic lager was poor value for money and instantly forgettable. This is the other side of the coin! It's delicious and the same price, $10 CDN for six, but these are REAL bottles, while Mill Street are shorties.
Logique Bio organic beer pours clear and golden. From the very first sniff, you know you're in for something a bit different. There's a definite sweetness here, a smell like the last apples of summer slowly ageing in a boxful of straw.
An initial hint of bitterness is soon smoothed away by a clean, sweet mid-taste. At 5% ABV, this is no Quebec monster and it's very easy on the mouth, with little gas to get in the way.
The aftertaste mellows into a long, smooth and enjoyable finish, with a hint of apricots and a suggestion of aniseed, or violets. (And yes, I have been drinking!)
Logique Bio organic beer won't appeal to people who like their beer bitter, but it could just be the best organic beer you?ve ever had.
And it might be a great beer to introduce a certain type of woman to. You know, the one who looks kind of cute, in a vegan way, but if anybody needs to get drunk and eat a steak, it's her?
We all know one of them and this beer could be the key to unlock the rod up their butt. Now if that's not damning with feint praise, then I don't know what is!
