Bikini babes wrestling in coleslaw... Another slow night at Long Branch Saloon

I would have to say that the Long Branch Saloon in Raleigh, North Carolina is my favorite bar -- and not just because of crazy stunts like girls wrestling in coleslaw, midget wrestling and insane Halloween parties.

It's a large place with a great atmosphere and plenty of variety. They have a karaoke room with a stage and bar, a country-western room with pool tables, a mechanical bull, a huge dance floor and three bars; a top forty room with another huge dance floor and three more bars; and an oldies room with a smallish dance floor and, you guessed it, two more bars.

Of course, you can find any of the main beer brands there, along with all kinds of fun neon signs and funky posters advertising them. One of the bartenders there got me started on Smirnoff Ice and introduced my mother to Yuengling on the same night I met the man who became my husband!

We met on the top forty side, he introduced me to the bartenders and bought me a couple drinks and the evening ended with a romantic, if drunken, dance on the country western side and the requisite exchange of phone numbers. He even called to make sure I'd gotten home okay, which was perfectly adorable.

We still go there, of course: it's been open for at least 25 years now and is likely to be there a lot longer. Yay Long Branch!
