Monkey Knife Fight Pale ale (4.5% ABV)
Rubicon Brewing Company, CA, USA
There seems to be an unwritten rule in the brewery business. If a beer has an exciting and titillating name, the taste will almost always let you down.
Well as you have no doubt guessed, Monkey Knife Fight Pale ale fits quite nicely into the aforementioned unwritten beer law. Billed as Rubicon's newest beer, MKF lets us down in every way except the most obvious way, the name.
I mean seriously, who wouldn't want to drink a beer inspired by two sweating, grunting knife-wielding primates going at each other with no holds barred? Not this Beer Delegate.
Okay, enough about the name. Let's talk about the beer. Like most of Rubicon's offerings, MKF is an ordinary offering masquerading as a cutting-edge brew. At 4.3% ABV, this light ale let me down from the first sip.
The hops, barely perceivable over the sound of my utter boredom, lacked a definitive flavor with which to describe this brew.
In fact my favorite part of this beer came when I looked down to see an empty glass before me. At least now I could order another pint of Purple!
