It's finally, finally, FINALLY happened. Just over four years after starting the UNOB, I have found a beer my wife can drink!
Monk's Cafe is one of the first Belgian sour beers I have tried; Duchess de Bourgogne was the other. Both have been delicious and this is definitely a style I want to explore more in future.
What's amazing is, having tried her with all kinds of stouts, including the sweet chocolate ones, fruit flavored and as many others as I could think of, my wife Carolina took a sip of this (preparing herself for the usual grimace of disgust) and... smiled! She LIKED this. It's winey in nature, a sort of red wine/port taste, but with no bitterness, only sourness. Quite fizzy. Well-rounded and easy to drink.
Highly recommended. And, if your wife happens to hate bitter tastes but likes sour, then this could be her beer, too!
