Monteith's Radler Bier: flavourful
Monteith's Radler Bier (5% ABV)
Monteith Brewing Company, New Zealand
Apparently based on an original style brewed in Bavaria in the 1920s, this
smooth lager has a sweet lime taste that makes it impossible to put down.
I have tried Monteith's Radler on many a visitor here, some who did not even like beer; only to hear them exclaim after one sip, "Holy shit, that is really fucking good!"
Yes, the Radler is one of my favourite beers and I find it makes a good 'evening drink'. One for when you are winding the evening down and don't want that cheap beer aftertaste that stays in your mouth until morning.
Its only downfall is that because it is so rich in flavour, you find your taste buds are a little overloaded after three pints or so.
But Radler is not the type of beer to get so tanked that you get in the state of mind that only Britney Spears would be familiar with. It's not that kind of beer.
It's a treat, a reward, an old friend that you spend four hours in a bar with catching up on old times.
Monteith's Radler Bier is decidedly West Coast New Zealand. And that's a very good thing. If you can find it, try it.
