The "Command Line" theory of human psychology holds that all of human behavior can be reduced to a handful of Unix Shell commands. This shirt from those sly investigators of human nature at ThinkGeek certainly captures the essence of my Friday nights with just two commands.
Unix and beer have a long and storied shared history. It's well known that the operating system came out of Bell Labs in the early 70s. Less well known is the fact that it originated as a drunken bet between Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson.
The original kernel design, scribbled onto the back of a coaster, is now in the Smithsonian, where one of the curators uses it to keep coffee rings off of his desk.
Unix soon became the standard operating system in higher education establishments around the world. Thirsty students took Unix back into the pubs. There was a time when 90 per cent of the graffiti in pubs close to major universities consisted of legal Unix commands.
Times may have changed, but beer drinkers will always have a place in their hearts for the little operating system that could. Wear this More Beer T-shirt $> with $> pride.
