Morimoto Imperial Pilsner: expensive!
Morimoto Imperial Pilsner (8.8% ABV)
Rogue Brewing, OR, USA
In all honesty, this is probably the most I've ever paid for a single bottle of beer. The big, beautiful ceramic bottle with a stopcap totalled up to a mind-boggling twenty dollars. (Well, twenty Canadian dollars at an overpriced store, but still...)
This pilsner is named after Masaharu Morimoto, one of the stars of Iron Chef. I don't know what a brewery from Oregon has in connection with Japanese TV chefs, but I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt.
It pours hazy golden with a foamy white head. There's a flowery aroma with a hint of hops and alcohol, orange flavours with touch of malt and a finish of hoppy bitterness.
You'll feel an alcohol warmth on the way down, as it's strong too at 8.8% ABV.
Morimoto Imperial Pilsner is really tasty, a wonderful pilsner, maybe one of the best pilsners I've ever had. (So I should think at that price! Ed.)
I've looked up prices for this, and while it is expensive (normally twelve American dollars), I got ripped off by the liquor store. Bastards!
