I used to go to New Orleans Steakhouse quite a bit. It is in Jefferson, NJ on Route 15 just north of Route 80. I lived in this area for many years and spent many nights at the bar. Things change, but on a recent Friday I took a ride up to Jefferson to visit one of my old stomping grounds.
As the name implies, the motif is New Orleans and Mardi Gras style. It has a good lunch and happy hour crowd from the local businesses in the area, including Picatinny Arsenal. The Arsenal is a Military Research and Development facility that has been in the area since the 1880s.
Some things change, some stay the same, the bartenders have stayed. If you show on Jerry’s shift he might play a tune on his harmonica and definitely tell you one of his jokes.
They have Guinness beer on tap but unfortunately on my most recent visit the tap wasn’t working. No problem they have Becks dark in a bottle, I haven’t had that in a while.
Even though I don’t go as often as I used I saw some old friends that I haven’t seen in awhile. The regulars have been going there for years. I have a tradition of telling the owner what a great sport baseball is, he prefers soccer.
Their prime rib was as good as ever. They have a frequent dining club. Spend $500 get a $25 gift certificate. The food is so good you would go back often enough to earn the gift certificate really quickly. They offer $9.95 specials with generous portions that include, seafood, chicken or steak entrees.
New Orleans Steakhouse has been around since 1987. I remember on weekends they used to have a DJ and stay open until 3 A.M. The bars in most of the surrounding towns had to close at 2 A.M. Many drunks would show up and many fights had to be broken up.
