Well I do live in Vermont, but I used to live in California (and I think my wife lives 99% of her time there, in her mind), so I am giving myself permission to review this ale...

This is quite some beer. Pretty dangerous stuff. Lethal, yet vunderful... you will crave it and then you will die. Maybe it is like true Absinthe? I am talking of North Coast's Brewery Old Stock Ale, bless their soul. They claim this beer is intended for aging, though that does not seem to happen for me. Next bottle, I promise, I will age...

Cut the crap you say, you silly Swede - what does it taste like?! This is something I better answer soon, because I just had a few sips, and I had a long day at work, and this is a mighty strong beer. 12.5% ABV they claim, though judging from its impact on me it seems closer to 80%. The high alcohol content is well hidden and you don't really notice it until you realize you cannot feel your feet...

The beer is on the sweet side, but not cloying in any way, no it is well balanced and multilayered ... the apres-goute is sweetly spicy and you'll find yourself smacking your mouth to feel it again!

When the beer warms up you can feel the alcohol more clearly, but it never becomes overpowering.
All in all an excellent beer and I say bravo to those good folks at North Coast Brewery. Time for a trip west I dare say, hiking and beer!

Yours,
Mattias

Editor's note: I have a bottle of this in the fridge waiting for just the right moment! I'll report back when I've tried it.

Spot on. I am sipping this beer now (a beer best sipped for sure!). Imagine a "Scotch" ale with most of the sweetness cut by that huge alcohol taste and you're about there.

It's dark golden brown bordering on caramel colour, smells like sweet floor wax (kind of) and tastes powerful, almost like cherry brandy. I can feel it warming my insides as I write this!
