Ommegang Abbey Dubbel: overpowering for less seasoned beer drinkers
Ommegang Abbey Dubbel (8.5% ABV)
Ommegang Brewery, Cooperstown, NY, USA
Following deeper into the fox hole is the Abbey Dubbel. This is definitely a brew for those who enjoy thick, rich beer and, being Ommegang Brewery’s first brew, they have had some time to figure out how to pack a large array of flavor into each bottle.
Inspired by the Trappist Monks, this can be a little overpowering for some, but many enjoy the robust aroma and flavor made by the combination of plum, cinnamon, caramel, toffee and licorice.
The description on the bottle of it being "A rich, fruity, aromatic, burgundian brew" perfectly depicts the warm, almost liquor-like sensations. Though an Ommegang classic, this 8.5% ABV brew is my least favorite.
