Shannon Wand, our first Beer Delegate for Quebec and our very own Bond girl...

...D'Arcy Gray does weird tricks with oranges, but also likes his beer...

...John Breese chose his girlfriend because she lives close to a depanneur with a super beer selection...

...all assisted on the Quebec beer guide by none other than Secretary-General Ashley "yes, I'm male" Cotter-Cairns.
Our Quebec beer guide recently doubled in size!
Our first ever application for Quebec beer guide Delegate status came from a girl and... shock horror! She applied for a Canadian position!
Shannon harbours secret fantasies of being a double agent spy type, which revs our engine to the redline.
After all, with a pedigree which includes Mata Hari and dozens of Bond girls, what man can resist a lady with a gun, a tracking device and endless hidden zippers holding her skimpy outfit together?
After many months with Shannon alone at the helm, we decided to open a couple more positions in our Quebec beer guide to help us cope with the huge number of QC-brewed beers out there.
We were delighted with the quality of the applicants!
First up is D'Arcy Gray. As you can see, he enjoys playing tricks with oranges and wearing funny hats.
In Ireland, they'd march in his honour while being pelted with rotten fruit from "the other team", but in Quebec we think this kind of behaviour is pretty normal.
Joining the Quebec beer guide at the same time is John Breese, a truly dedicated beer man.
So dedicated, in fact, that he chose his current girlfriend simply because she lives close to a depanneur with a beer selection of more than 150 varieties, many of them brewed in Quebec. (We're kidding. I'm sure she has other fantastic qualities too.)
Meanwhile, holding the Quebec beer guide together back at UNOB Headquarters is Ashley Cotter-Cairns.
Not content with being Secretary-General of the world's fastest-growing Beer organisation, he's editor of the website and writes beer content for brews from wherever he can get them.
With the help of his three Quebec beer guide Delegates, Ash is currently attempting to review every beer available in Quebec. Once he's completed that mission, who knows what he'll dream up next?
The Delegate application speeches follow. (Ash hired himself without an interview. Nepotism, eh?)
The hole-in-the-wall curry house with a
kick-ass draught selection; the bike tour of Montreal ending at the St.
Ambroise brewery; my friend Dave and his wild cognac flavoured brew
finds; all this and more is what I have to offer.
It is highly sought-after information, and I have it all right here at the tip of my tongue; the click of my keyboard; the wave of my pen.
More importantly, it's yours for the paltry sum of one laminated UNOB Beer Delegate card. It's a good deal.
I like beer
It makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer
It helps me unwind,
And sometimes it makes me feel mellow
(cue the backup singers: "makes him mellow")
Whiskey's too rough
Champagne
costs too much
And vodka puts my mouth in gear
But this little refrain, will help me explain
As a mater of fact I LIKE BEER.
I'm in Montreal, but I'm a performer and get to travel a lot, especially to weird places like Fredericton, NB and Halifax, NS. I could do travelling beer reviews as well.
I wish I could remember though, was it Mac Davis or the Irish Rovers who sang that song? Hmm...
Quebec is hands-down the Canadian capital of hedonism, a fact proven by the quality found in the artisanal fare coming out of La Belle Province.
You have microbrewers and pubs cranking out new varieties of beer on a near daily basis. Add to that experience the staggering amounts of wines, cheeses and chocolates produced in the province to enjoy all these beers with.
As a devout enthusiast of beer, I
volunteer
to subject myself
to vast quantities of testing for the sake of the greater good of the
Quebec beer guide. The
degree of
my selflessness amazes even myself sometimes...
Have a look at our Beer Delegate page for details and an application form.
