This Imperial Stout was an addition to my purchases due to its low price. Over the past couple of weeks I have seen this beer at $7 and the lower and lower until I picked it up at $3 at Lee's Discount Liqour on Flamingo. A very complex beer with lots of flavor and one of the better stouts I have consumed over the years.
The aroma of this beer leaves no question as to the label or the name, it is intense with roasted barley and coffee aromas. There is a light hoppy aroma with a slight sweet overtone that becomes present while it is consumed. The coffee and roasted barley scents intensify as the beer warms and gives off a rather pleasing aroma to the coffee drinker in us all.
The beers appearance is a deep ebony color with no haze or cloudiness and a slight carbonation like a good stout should. The creamy tan head sheets the glass as you drink and lingers on top of the glass through out.
This beer is very full bodied and rich, with a lot of roasted barley and coffee flavors which leave a slight bitterness on the tongue. The sweet aftertaste that compliments the coffee flavor is like the cream in your morning cup of joe. The mouthfeel is smooth in texture and coats the palate with a sharp flavors and refreshing carbonation as it goes down.
Overall, I loved this beer, bought it at a very discounted price, but would pay full price any day. The deep, rich malt and coffee flavors are pleasant and not over bearing and this is one of those beers that I could drink every day.
