River Horse Belgian Freeze: clove-y
River Horse Brewery, Lambertville, NJ, USA
Okay, this one may be a little hard for me to review. I admit, I haven't crossed the gates into Belgian Ale fandom yet and I never quite grasped the dreamy, spaced out look some people get when they talk about their favorite Belgian Ales. But, hell, I’m a reviewer, and I must try all the samples.
The color of this ale was dark brown from the caramel malts used and poured with a frothy snow-white head. I took a whiff off the top and smelled the distinct aroma of Belgian ale yeast. You cannot mistake that smell.
I took a sip and discovered a semi sweet, full bodied ale with that clove-y sweet taste of from the yeast. The figurative bananas and cloves? You bet.
