Saint Arnold Brown ale: buzz
Saint Arnold Brewing Company, TX, USA
So with a name like St. Arnold, you might think you were near a religious establishment, particularly one that might draw on Catholic influences... well, you're not. You're in Texas.
While that is a religious experience for some, we ain't Boston when it comes to Catholics. So what are we doing with Saintly beer? Everything in Texas is divinely inspired. Our beer is no exception.
Now before you tune out because you think this is blind Texas love, hold up, pa'dner. Some of that divine inspiration comes in the form of Lone Star and Lone Star Light, two crappy beers that taste crappy together (this is no peanut butter and chocolate combo, my friends).
Clearly God is warning of the peril of drinking swill, but extolling the joys of a CHEAP buzz.*
So let's get to it. What does St Arnold Brown Ale taste like? Smooth, delightful, mildly nutty, "Early-Spring-Refreshing."
So it goes like this: you can't wear white shoes between Labor Day and Easter, right?
Well, in my book, you can't drink lighter beers during that time, either: in other words, step away from that bloody lager. You need to have the range of Oktoberfest to Stouts.
St Arnold Brown is a great crossover beer. It is substantial enough to drink during winter, but light enough to drink during Fall, Spring and perhaps even Summer. Easy drinking, never bitter. Give it a try: you'll be glad you did!
*I can still get Lone Star longnecks at the Dixie Chicken for $0.95. Yes, less than $1 at a REAL bar during regular (non-Happy Hour) hours.
