Schoune Reb Ale beer review
Submitted

This weird red was of the cast of a
dozen brews quaffed by five willing testers during the first Quebec Beer
Tasting night back in early February.
It's nice to finally make time to write up some of those beers we tried, but to be perfectly honest I had to have another bottle of this to double-check my feelings about it. Ahem.
Schoune Reb Ale beer is much less carbonated than its sibling, La Ambree, which I reviewed earlier this evening. You won't be troubled by bitterness here, though.
In fact, diabetics may need to ensure they have insulin on standby.
To summarise the comments of the evening, it's a beer with attitude. Though to call it a beer is a bit of a stretch, really. It's closer to an alcopop in my opinion.

The cloudiness of the pour can be explained by the surprising strength. 6.9% abv is not to be sneezed at.
If you could possibly bring yourself to drink a six pack, then you'd be singing rugby ballads until the wee hours.
Perhaps the greatest challenge is describing what on earth is going on in your mouth.
Imagine a normal, boring beer with red licorice melted into it. Or a beer which has had a plum pudding marinading in it for an hour before being strained and served to you.
From the bizarre sweetness to the slightly racy label, Schoune Reb Ale beer is a bit of a joke.
I don't think anybody takes it too seriously, which is no bad thing in an industry in danger of disappearing sideways up its own backside at times.
Quebec Beer Delegate Shannon Wand described it as tasting "like carrot cake without the icing", which is probably a first for a beer review, and while I didn't quite get that, I was reminded of Christmas cake and those over-sweet, cinnamon-laden cookies you get at Yuletide.
So, if you're looking to bribe Santa when you leave out the mince pies this December, Schoune Reb Ale might be the one to go for. Otherwise, buy one for your friends as a joke.
They will probably see the funny side... Probably.
