Two Shed Brewery beers: Imperial
stout and Mountain ale

No review of two Shed beers would be
complete without mention of the Monty Python interview with Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson,
the man famous for erecting two sheds in his garden. I suggest you
check it out if you've never seen it before: it's one of their silliest
skits.
Back to the beer. According to Mattias, Shed Brewery Mountain ale has quite a loyal following in Vermont.
It's almost an essential item of "survival gear" for semi-serious hikers to carry up the green hills and mountains of the state. Given that I am liable to get myself lost on the way to the composter in our back garden, I think I'll keep hiking and beer a good distance apart for the time being, at least...
Mattias is quite the outdoorsy type. If I tell you we began the day of the beer fest with a bike ride and hike before getting ready for the beer with a bacon and egg sub, then you might get the picture. (Mad Swede alert! 100-1 he'll be on America's Most Wanted before 2010.)
We patiently lined up for our Shed Brewery beers as the Vermont Brewers Festival got busier and the lineups more ferocious.
I let Matti take the lead here, as he'd tried many of this brewery's offerings in the past.
We went for the Imperial Stout first. A good, solid, dependable stout, in my book, but Mattias found a sourness in the aftertaste that he didn't find to his liking.
Better news awaited us in the shape of the Mountain ale, which was a medium-bodied, dark brown and 'meaty' ale.
It was me who drew the likeness to Newcastle Brown ale and it's not a bad comparison. Like all the other beers at the festival, it was served way too cold. I would have liked to try this about five degrees warmer.
Still, Mountain ale is highly recommended and I wouldn't turn MY nose up at the Imperial stout, either. Both Shed Brewery beers were pretty tasty and I'd drink them again.
