Today, I review Shiner Blonde, which according to the website is in the style of the original beers brewed in the Spoetzl Brewery. It is one of many beers on the market called a blonde that is actually something else, in this case a Pilsner.

As a Pils it does pretty well, a nice crisp flavor and a slightly acidic bite combined with a moderate hops note, and a gentle yet distinct aroma. To the average beer drinker who has never had a European Pils, it is likely even on the side of quite good. Continues below

Frankly on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn, it is pretty great. However, the reality is that Shiner Blonde is pretty average in its class. Certainly better than the dreck many American companies pass off as a Pils, but not keeping up with its truly Bohemian brothers.

I'll keep drinking it mind you, if nothing else it trumps many others on availability alone in these parts.

Clearly this beer a nice thing to have on a hot summer's day, yet when put next to a Czech or German Pils, Shiner Blonde is simply an enjoyable average beer.

TEXAS

Tennesseans have a long history of relocating to Texas. Shiner Blonde is a staple here and can be found in almost every conveniece store and grocery store. If'n you want Shiner Blonde and don't want to move to Texas, I suggest make a monthly qaurterly or even monthly trip to Texarkana and pick up a few a cases. (P. S. you may find it in Arkansas)

More Shiner Blonde.....PLEASE!
by: Allen Dick

I am writing you in regard's to the fact that i can not find
this wonderful beer anywhere here in Tennessee anymore.
About a year or two ago i tried this beer after searching for
the perfect beer for year's, and i truly never wanted any other
brand after tasting Shiner Blonde. I was told this beer is
seasonal, and would not be sold here ever again. I really
miss this product so much, could you please tell me if there
is any way i can still purchase this product anymore, it's by
far the best beer i've ever had, and i would buy a truck load
of it if i could find it again. Thank you so much if you can help!

Even the impossible can be found on eBay, if you are patient in your searching. Try searching for Russian River (you'll need to narrow down by beer name, ex. Pliny, Damnation, Temptation), Black Albert, or any of the BIG beers. Don't overlook eBay's Belgium Beer results either...
