Another from the wondrous bounty of beer brought to the UNOB HQ by Dave Oplinger! Cheers mate.
This was an intriguing prospect. A German-style beer, specifically "Kulmbacher", according to the label; dark lager, quite thick for a lager and at 6%, pretty strong. Sprecher is clearly a brewery which is prepared to take some chances.
In many ways this reminded me of a stout. It has a similar look and aroma, though the beer is more gassy than most stouts. A dark, malty scent, laced with hints of coffee and chocolate. Instantly fizzy and a bitter in the mouth, though not dryly bitter like many stouts can be. A well-rounded, not quite smoky flavor on the tongue, with a great, balanced bittersweet after taste and a warming kick from the alcohol.
A superb beer. So far, all the Sprechers I have tried have been delicious!
