Steam Whistle pilsner has a very smooth, light pilsner taste. This beer cures the thirst immediately, unlike some beers which leave a dry feel in the mouth.

It is very good with a roast beef dish, plus the draught version stands near equal as the bottled one. A very nice surprise.

It tastes OK...
by: Ashley Cotter-Cairns

On a trip to Toronto last year, I insisted on getting as many local pints down me as I could manage. And this was as local as it was possible to get, Steam Whistle Brewery being built in an old railway roundhouse on the edge of a lake, right around the corner from the pub I was drinking in. Pilsners and I have a history of liking one another, so I was expecting good things from this brew.

It was bright, pale and golden in the glass and I licked my lips in anticipation as I prepared for the first taste. Uh-oh... weird. There was kind of a soapy mouth feel, smooth, but somehow thick: not in a good way. Like there was too much volume in my mouth for the amount of liquid I’d ingested.

Fortunately the taste was far more welcoming. A wheaty, middle of the road flavour. The bitterness of the initial bite dies down into a very long, sweetish aftertaste.

Steam Whistle Pilsner is quite fizzy, like many pilsners. It sparkles on your tongue as you taste it. That gassy quality is its greatest downfall, sadly, as it would be a hard beer to drink too much of, filling you up with gas before you can really be expected to order another round.

You could have a pint from time to time, but any more and your arse would be whistling like the railroad engines this beer is named after. But it tastes okay.
