As the summer has ended and it is closing in on the holiday season, many of the liquor stores here in Las Vegas are blowing out the last of the summer seasonals at great prices. So I figured, Why not stock up and drink?
I like Deschutes, they make some fine beers and this one is no exception. The Aroma is a very sweet malt aroma with mild citrus yeast esters. There is a mild hop aroma which grows as the beer warms. Kind of has IPA aroma qualities with the sweet and bitter mixing in your nose but no real piney or earthy scents.
Twilight's appearance is golden in color with slight copper tint, very clear with no cloudiness or haze. There is a thick foamy brown head which laces the glass as the beer is consumed. It is moderately carbonated which gives it a little bubbliness but nothing overwhelming.
The flavor is pleasantly sweet with a kick of mild bitterness from the hops. Very balanced in the malt and hops flavors but the aftertaste is pure hops. Hop aftertaste stays on the palate for a few seconds and coats the mouth. Much better flavor than the Summerbrau from Wasatch..
The mouthfeel of the mild carbonation and refreshing texture coats the palate with a hoppy film. Twilight Summer Ale is light and refreshing with a moderate body and very smooth in character. Has a lot of IPA quality again but not that full barreled texture and earthiness.
Overall, I don’t know why they don’t add more hops and call it an IPA. None the less, this was a very fine beer and I would love to drink this one all summer long. Great flavor and aroma, nice body and very refreshing. I like this beer.
