Two Brothers Cane and Ebel Red Rye Ale: knuckleball
Two Brothers Brewing, IL, USA
It pours like a mineral-rich stream, flowing with a reddish-brown hue, crisp and clear with a sturdy yet quick dissolving head.
I like it. It's bold and crisp, but not as clingy in aftertaste as some reds can be cloying... ahem... Killians, for example!
I honestly think Red Ales don't get the respect they deserve. Like a middle child they act out with their unabashed colors and alcohol content.
Yet this Two Brothers Artisan beer has the stoic character of a casual business lunch or work party (depending on where you work). Never the perfect pick for any occasion, but the flavor complexity connotes a level of sophistication.
I personally enjoy the surprise (like a box of Cracker Jacks) from different brewer's interpretations of them. If brewers were baseball pitchers, Red Ale would be the knuckle ball of their pitching arsenal; you never know what it's going to do.
