I bought this beer because I liked the bottle shape, a tall skinny Jaegermeiester bottle, with a porcelain cap. Although the writing on the bottle is all in German, a quick Google search led me to an English version of the labeling and Michael Jackson beer review. This beer is like dynamite, it packs a lot of power in a tiny container.
Uerige has fruity, sweet, malty notes with mild hop undertones. Has a kind of wood aged aroma combined with a molasses or brown sugar scent
as well. The hops and bitter notes become more prevalent as the beer warms and takes on a more earthy aroma.
The appearance of this beer has a medium golden brown color with moderate cloudiness with a thick foamy head which clings to the glass while beer is consumed and stays with the beer the whole time. There are minute grains and bits of hop floating around the glass which add character to the appearance of this beer.
This beers flavor is mildly hoppy with malt tastes which linger in the mouth for a while. There is a mild bitterness and sweet aftertaste which make this an excellent altbier. There is also an added sharpness to this beer because of its higher alcohol content and all of the dark malts used in its brewing. The texture is smooth and coats the palate with flavor. Very refreshing and moderate carbonation which goes down easy and warms the mouth when it heats up.
Overall this is a great beer, altbier or otherwise. The balanced malt and hop flavors and moderate texture simply add to the drinkability of this beer.
