Unibroue
selection pack VIDEO REVIEW
By Secretary-General
of the UNOB, Ashley Cotter-Cairns
It's
not until you begin writing about beer for the first time
that you understand how difficult it can be.
Beer's been in my life for over 20 years, and yet until I began the United Nations of Beer, I'd never given much thought to what beer actually tastes like.

The challenge of describing a beer, or comparing one to another, is simple in theory.
You have to sound like you know what you're talking about, without coming across like one of those wine tasters who are always making reference to "overtones of aniseed and wet cement, with a long, oatmeally finish".
So, in the Unibroue selection pack review, unscripted and shot on December 25th 2006, I hope I don't come across as one of those pretentious types. Be kind to my mistakes...
And if you either don't have broadband or would rather read a review, I've transcribed my thoughts below the video. Pics of the various beers will follow ASAP.
I hope 2007 brings you joy, good health and many excellent beers!

If you can't, or would rather not, watch the video review, here's a summary of the three brews and Ashley's comments.
Unibroue Blonde
Initially
I was disappointed by this beer. It seemed a little flat and
characterless. A few sips later, I realised that I was being unfair.
What threw me was the consistency of the taste. I am so used to beers with strange aftertastes once you swallow that the lack of this phenomenon made me underrate it.
It's a level, solid blonde (which you can't say about all blondes, whether beers or women!) and should be tried by fans of blonde beers.
Unibroue
Miel Pilsner
You might expect a honey beer to be
light, sweet and fruity. But this remarkable beer is dark-tasting, rich
and full of flavour.
In the video, I describe it as "One of the best beers I've ever had", which is high praise indeed. You just don't expect to buy a selection pack of beer and be hit by a knockout taste like this.
This rather spoiled the other two beers for me. The Miel is just so good. If you have never tried it, buy some. Right now.
Unibroue Rousse
Amber,
dark-tasting and bitter, this was my least favourite of the three, but
that probably says more about me than the brew.
Bitterness is not quite what I expected from an amber, so I justify my comment. However, if you like your beer red and sharp, this will suit you perfectly.
Unibroue Selection Pack conclusion
I
think I paid about Can$20 including tax for this pack of 12. Quite
simply put, that is an absolute bargain.
There's a beer here for almost every taste (no stout, but stout fans probably wouldn't have their heads turned by this box anyway).
A great introduction to Quebec
beer.
Highly recommended.

Video is the most important
thing to happen to the Internet in years. Now that broadband is so
widespread, it's no longer a tall order to ask people to access video
from your website.
To be honest, video was way down our list of priorities. We'd already taken on a massive task. The world of beer is HUGE! But then our heads were turned by the chance to bag some cash.
The cash in question was part of the Site Build It! video contest. Site Build It owners like ourselves were invited to make a video showing what SBI! has meant to them.
The great news is, our video, SBI: The Origin of Webmaster..." won $5,000 in the contest for 'Most Memorable Movie'!
We'll be using our new-found excitement for video to bring you dynamic beer content in 2007. Thanks for watching!
