Steve LaRue limbers up in his inner beer sanctum to comment on what's hot, and what's not, on the Utah beer scene. And yes, those are ALL his own glasses!
Utah is dry. Right? Common knowledge. For example, it's one of only four states that Beer of the Month Clubs won't ship to.
But as our newly-appointed Beer Delegate for Utah, Steve LaRue intends to put the state firmly on the global beer atlas.
Indeed, there's more beer activity in Utah than any of us imagined, with a fine output of award-winning brews for the hophead to choose from.
You can tell just by looking at his private beer glass collection that this man takes his beer very, very seriously!
Here's his proposal speech.
Greetings from behind the Zion Curtain!
As many of you have heard, Utah has some pretty strange liquor laws, but as an experienced beer traveler I have been unfortunate enough to find that Utah is not unique in this weirdness.
Utah does have 12 brewpubs, two micros and one tied house. These breweries produce some of the finest beers in the country, as evidenced by the numerous GABF and WBC awards they have won.
Having been all over North America and visiting nearly 500 brewpubs and having attended numerous beer festivals, I feel that I have tasted some of the finest beers in the world and a handful of the worst.
I
was a professional brewer at Ebenezer's
Restaurant & Brewery in
Ogden for three years and I have tried my hand at homebrewing with
marginal success.
My favorite style of beer is the NW IPA/IIPA.
I am looking forward to exposing all of you to the best of Utah and hope that you all get a chance to visit.
