Some of Utah's more archaic beer laws have been overhauled
The recently closed Utah legislature finally amended some archaic liquor laws.
First and foremost was the elimination of the "private club." To get a mixed drink or wine in Utah you either had to order food in a restaurant or be a dues paying member of a club. Starting July 1st this stipulation has been eliminated or left to the discretion of the establishment.
Second was the legalization of home brewing in Utah. Although home brewing has been legal in the US since the reign of Jimmy Carter it is still illegal in several states due to the fact that each state has had the right to control alcohol sales/manufacture since the repeal of prohibition.
Both these bills are now on the Governor's desk awaiting his signature and will be implemented in the next few months.
A third bill that would have increased the ABV for draft beer from 4.0% failed to pass and will hopefully come up again next year.
