Waltham was once a center of watch manufacturing, hence its nickname as "Watch City".

As the pocket watch industry started to wind down, Waltham moved into the manufacture of clockwork death robots and the mayor pushed for the city to be known as "Robot City". Wind-up killing machines never really took off as a consumer item, so the old nickname stayed.

These days, Waltham is better known as a center for high technology. Software companies fill the office parks that line I-95. It is not known at this point whether they have any plans to take advantage of recent technological advances in order to build a new generation of killer robots, but we should probably be on our guard.

Watch City Brewing has been brewing up delicious beers in Waltham, Massachusetts for 12 years now, a fact that this tee-shirt, available from the confusingly-named Zazzle, celebrates. It is to be hoped that when the attack of the Waltham robots inevitably comes that their fine brews will take the edge off of the end of the world.
