The title of "World's Greatest Beer Drinker" is probably the most fractured and divisive title outside of professional boxing. With a number of competing organizations each naming their own champion beer drinker, it can be hard to figure out who the real greats are.

The most respected title is probably the Beer Drinker of the Year award that is given out every year at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Much like a modern beauty pageant, this competition goes out of its way to search for well-rounded candidates who display a deep knowledge of beer.

This is anathema to many old-school fans of the "sweet science" of beer-drinking who feel that the only criteria should be the volume of beer consumed within a set period of time.
